Thus, attaining the state of spiritual purity required for the angel to appear caused her to renounce the vengeance that motivated her to contact the angel in the first place. But because of everything she's been through, and the lessons that she has been forced to learn, she changes her request - instead of asking for revenge against the killers of her child, she wishes for the power to forgive them, closing the circle from the beginning of the ritual when she insisted that she doesn't ever forgive. As was stated in the beginning, this is not a metaphor for a higher state of consciousness - it is a literal angel, and it has come to her to grant her a favor it also dispels the numerous demons that have appeared in the house. Revenge is often portrayed as an endless cycle, and her recurring dream is a warning to her that if she puts herself on this path she will destroy everything around her, and in the end she will have lost everything while gaining nothing.Īt the end, after enduring all of the various trials and failures and disappointments, she finally achieves a state of purity, and her Guardian Angel appears. Her dream has her surrounded by death and ruin, trying but failing to reach her son - this is what she will reap if she sows vengeance the way she hopes. So in his dream he has become just a regular man - the type of person who owns a scooter and lives a simple, ordinary life. He is shown to be courageous, but also haunted by his own past and knowledge, and his wish is to escape from the weight of that.
